Helen H. Miller Biography

From 2010 to 2013, Ms. Miller served as Chief Executive Officer of CancerCare, a national nonprofit organization with an annual operating budget of $35 million and over 130 employees. CancerCare provides free counseling, education, support and financial assistance to people affected with cancer, and services 95% of the counties in the United States and more than 115,000 individuals annually.

Previously, Ms. Miller was the Executive Director of the Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia & Parkinson Foundation, an organization headquartered in New York City that was established to find better treatments and cures for the movement disorders Dystonia and Parkinson’s disease. From 1999 to 2004 Ms. Miller was the Director of the Cancer Prevention and Wellness Program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which is one of the world’s leading providers of cancer care. From 1988-1999, she founded and was the Director of HealthOutreach at New York Presbyterian Hospital, which remains a program designed to provide services to adults 65 years of age and older.

In addition, Ms. Miller has served on many boards, including The National Philanthropic Trust (a donor-advised fund), Philadelphia, PA, St. Agatha’s Foundation, Syracuse, NY, Health Advocates for Older People, New York City, the Purnell School, Pottersville, NJ.and the Castine Historical Society, Castine, ME. She has also chaired the Eastside Council on Aging (New York City).

Throughout her professional career, Ms. Miller has worked with and been an active member of many national healthcare organizations, including American Society of Clinical Oncology, The National Comprehensive Cancer Network, Oncology Nursing Society, National Association of Social Workers and American Society on Aging.

Ms. Miller received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work, New York City and her Bachelor’s degree from Hollins College, Roanoke, Virginia.
